Musings from the Mountains: On Rediscovering Playfulness

Consider this your official Happy Buddha love note 💌.

Welcome to our monthly inspiration drop — a love note from the mountains exploring themes like yoga, life, and joy. This edition comes from Athil, the heart behind Happy Buddha Retreats. A yoga teacher, rhythm facilitator and all-round mischief-maker, Athil reminds us why playfulness matters (and how to welcome it back into our lives).

I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of playfulness 🌈

As adults, we often forget the pure joy that comes from simply playing, laughing, and being present in the moment. But really — why should kids have all the fun?

When was the last time you let yourself play?
Maybe it was dancing (when you made sure no one was watching!) or laughing so hard your belly hurt?
That’s the kind of spirit we love to cultivate here at Happy Buddha Retreats.

Why Playfulness Matters

Playfulness isn’t just about having fun — although that’s a pretty great reason too!
It’s also a gateway to joy, a way to release stress, reconnect with your true self, and soften the edges of daily life.

It’s about embracing the silly, the spontaneous, the imperfect.
The parts of life that don’t need to be productive or polished — just felt and enjoyed.

At our retreats, we find playful connection in all kinds of ways:
✨ yoga
🥁 drumming and body percussion
📖 storytelling
🎲 lighthearted games
💬 spontaneous conversations with new friends

We believe that playfulness is a powerful tool for healing, transformation, and good old-fashioned fun.

Try It Today

So… why not bring a little more play into your day?

🎶 Dance like no one’s watching
🎤 Sing (loudly!) in the shower
🧩 Try something new just for the fun of it

Your inner child will thank you — and we promise, you won’t regret it 😄

Warmly,
~ Athil 🌟

Athil has spent over a decade creating welcoming, judgment-free spaces for self-discovery and joy. He’s a yoga teacher, TaKeTiNa rhythm practitioner, and a keen African drummer — using rhythm as a tool for presence, connection, and inner exploration. When he’s not facilitating retreats in the Colo Heights at his Thrive Retreat, you might find him tinkering away behind the scenes (or planning the next South India Retreat, coming early 2026 👀).
