Meet Michelle Taffe, your teacher

From an early age, Michelle suffered from intermittent depression and anxiety, and by her early twenties, she thought that this was just ‘how life was’. When she was 29, she had an epiphany – waking up one day with the suspicion that perhaps this was not ‘how life was’ but rather how she was. She thought there must be another way to live, and she just needed to discover it. So she packed up her whole life and went to a small island in Thailand to do her first Vipassana silent meditation retreat.

Since completing that first retreat in 2005 she has completed two more, at the same monastery in Thailand in 2013 and 2017, the last two as yoga teacher and then facilitator. Her life transformation began during her first meditation retreat, and it has been an amazing journey in the fifteen years since then.

As a result of the transformation she experienced through these practices, she now dedicates her life to helping others to awaken to their inner light and find their own path out of suffering.

Since that first retreat, she has a daily sitting meditation practice based in the Vipassana (insight meditation) tradition as well as a daily yoga practice which is based on the Ashtanga primary series. Michelle leads meditation and yoga retreats in Australia and around the world.

Michelle’s qualifications are:

  • Bachelor of Arts, 1997
  • Grad Dip Applied Media,1998
  • RYT 200 Hour Yoga Teacher, 2017
  • Certified Reiki Level I + II Healer, 2017 & 2019
  • Mindfulness and Meditation Teacher, 2018
  • Facilitator at Vipassana Meditation Retreat, 2013, 2017

My greatest teacher has always been to trust my inner self. Working through my own traumas has been my greatest lesson and this healing has empowered me to feel more content and with a sense of wellness.

3-Night Inner Freedom Silent Retreat

This specialty silent meditation retreat takes place at Happy Buddha Retreats in Wentworth Falls, Blue Mountains and is facilitated by Michelle Taffe. You’ll be staying twin-share in our cosy and communal retreat house (with clean, shared bathrooms). A chef will be preparing fresh and nourishing meals for you. All yoga and meditation workshops will take place in our “Dream” studio (next door to the house) and you have access to our quiet zen den and local walks during your free time.

Places are limited to 8 attendees, and we have only 2 private rooms available.

This is a silent retreat which means we encourage you to experience introspection. Of course, if you need to speak to your facilitator or chef please do… And note, with any new challenge or experience there can be triggering moments so please take steps to always be kind to yourself.

We also ask retreaters to limit their mobile device use to make the most of this experience. We have a very friendly communal house cat so please note if you have allergies. (Sorry!)

Happy Buddha Retreats is a relaxing and healing yoga retreat near Sydney, only 1.5hrs drive out of Sydney and 10 minutes walk to Wentworth Falls train station in the Blue Mountains of NSW.
